BOC Case demonstration – Demo Plant in Germany/Spain

The BOC case has some exciting developments to share, too. First, the procurement process for all parts of the demonstrator plant has been finalized by the partners from Microinnova. Afterwards, construction of the pilot plant began and was finished on time in the fall of 2023. The plant has then been shipped to the labs of Enzymicals for a 5 month stop-over. Here, the pilot unit was fully assembled and tested under operating conditions for the very first time. As reported earlier, first trials showed encouraging results achieving targets for the main KPIs. Then, the pilot unit was dismantled and repacked for shipment to the Solutex’ industrial site in Spain.
The pilot plant has now successfully reached the industrial site of Solutex in Spain. Currently, both the enzymatic flow reactor and the membrane part are being brought together for the first time at Solutex. Technicians from Enzymicals, VITO and Solutex are working closely together to successfully demonstrate the full potential of the omega-3 enrichment process developed in MACBETH. All partners involved are looking forward to this event with great optimism! Long-term stability tests will be carried out and data for a life cycle analysis will be generated in order to obtain a first estimate of the environmental impact of the novel process compared to the state of the art.
